Arranging Medical Treatment Abroad

We have known for a while that the number of people going abroad to seek medical treatment is on the increase. Indeed, after payout of inpatient claims we have examples of our clients then sourcing their medical treatment in hospitals outside of the UK.

This is done for one of 2 main reasons:

1. less expensive medical treatment
2. access to top international surgeons

Medical Treatment Costs Abroad

Often it is the case that medical treatment costs less abroad. Recently The Times ran an article about treatment abroad and highlighted the costs of surgery in India and in Thailand compared to the UK.

Freedom Healthnet clients sometimes choose to have their treatment abroad because they can make substantial savings upon the cost of their medical treatment. As we pay out cash upon approval of your inpatient claim, Freedom customers can then decide where they would like to take their treatment and take advantages of any savings made. Because we pay out a fixed price for your treatment, the money is yours to do with as you will. The only stipulation is that you undertake the treatment required within a 6 months timeframe or further treatment or investigations will not be covered for that claim. Please note: we pay out a fixed price for treatments, if the cost of the treatment exceeds our amount payable, the client is responsible for any shortfall.

Treatment abroad can offer cheaper options, often at the same level or higher level of care than here in the UK. Any money saved by having treatment abroad belongs to the claimant, tax free.

Further to requests for help, we are compiling this online resource to provide information about various establishments which accept patients from the UK.

Top International Surgeons

The other reason for seeking treatment abroad is to gain access to specialist treatment not available in the UK. If you require treatment, you want the best surgeon in the world to treat you. We pay out a fixed amount for treatment and our clients can use this money to put towards treatment by the top surgeon in the USA, for instance.

One of our clients, Mrs B, learnt she had breast cancer. She wanted to have treatment by the top specialist who was based in Southern USA. She used the £25,000 (approx.) amount Freedom Healthnet paid out and put that towards treatment by the surgeon she believed to be the best in the world for her particular type of breast cancer. Her treatment cost £31,000 (approx.) and she paid the difference of £6000 (approx). Mrs B was delighted to be able to have the freedom to choose the best surgeon and at only a small cost to herself.

Treatment Abroad Locations

In order to help our customers, we are compiling a health resource information section in the form of various destinations or organisations which offer treatment abroad. Please note, the inclusion of these destinations or organisations does not act as a recommendation by Freedom Healthnet, merely an information resource.
