Healthcare models - the Ukraine

The Ukraine has a hybrid healthcare system where it mixes private and state funded healthcare which was pioneered some ten years ago.

By combining private funds to the infrastructure available within a state system, it allows complicated and expensive treatments to take place, where it a state only funded system, this would not be available. For example, a surgeon could carry out a procedure in a state hospital, where basic provisions would be available and the patient can pay separately for the high tech extras. For those patients however, who cannot afford to pay for expensive extras, the state funded system still remains accessible.

Doctors in the Ukraine play a vital role in supporting and funding the healthcare system. They contribute to the upkeep of the hospitals in order to maintain their standard and cleanliness. Although these doctors salaries are not high, many patients thank their doctors with financial rewards that can be quite high.
